The S2000 screamed onto the scene and instantly elevated sports-car expectations. It has a chassis that raised the rigidity bar for roadsters - stiff as a steeple - and a surgically precise six-speed manual gearbox that's a marvel. The high-revving four-cylinder engine develops more power per liter than any naturally aspirated power plant has ever achieved, at around 6,000 rpm, when the second set of VTEC cam lobes kick in. This was a little frenetic for most tastes and led to the displacement increase in 2004, which lowered the power. The purists think the original S2000 is just right. CAR and DRIVE's current issue (October 2009) named: 'the original S2000 the best driver's car in the series'. BRAD STAHL founder and pasted president of the S2000 Club of America says having driven and raced a number of different examples of the S2000 is inclined to agree that the pre 2003 models are the best..
