Resurrected from a 31 year rest, this is an original one-owner 1963 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport with a numbers matching 409-340HP, 3-speed manual and posi-traction, and less than 52,000 original miles. Sheet metal and paint is almost perfect. Interior is like new, except some small tears on driver side armrest pad and a 1 inch seam separation in bottom corner of drivers seat (barely visible). 1960s glass packs replaced original mufflers in late 1960s gives it that classic '60s muscle car sound. No power steering, power brakes or A/C. More pictures available upon request.
Tried to maintain as much originality as possible during resuscitation. The following were done to bring this automotive icon back to life:
Cylinders oiled and engine turned by hand to ensure rings are lubricated and free.
Oil and filter changed, and oil system primed to rocker arms to insure a wet start.
Fuel system decontaminated: gas tank, pickup/sending unit, tank filler neck, fuel pump, sediment bowl gasket, soft lines and 1 of 4 hard lines replaced. Remaining fuel suction and return lines blown out. Original or NOS clamps used where possible. Original carburetor rebuilt. A NOS fuel pump in the box is included with sale.
Cooling system reversed flushed, and refilled with new 50% antifreeze mix. New radiator, heater and bypass hoses, fan belt and thermostat replaced. Original clamps used throughout.
Ignition points filed, distributor weights de-rusted, vacuum hose replaced, and dwell and timing set to factory specs. AC spark plugs cleaned and re-gaped.
Battery and negative cable replaced.
Brake system refurbished: master cylinder, all wheel cylinders and all soft lines replaced. All hard lines blown out and flushed with new DOT 3 brake fluid. Inside brake drum surfaces de-rusted and cleaned; and brake shoes cleaned and scuffed. System pressure bled.
Front wheel bearings repacked.
Exterior polished and waxed with carnauba wax. Stainless and chrome trim polished.
No visible rust inside or out.
Undercoated in 1967.
Factory assembly line paint marks visible on firewall and some unexposed brake parts.
Stored in concrete floor garage for last 31 years.
No rodent/animal damage.
