1952 Buick Super Riviera
Bill Haley had just formed the first rock group, the Comets. Big Detroit iron, trimmed in Chrome to the excess, and powerful eight-cylinder engines dominated the market, and gas was a mere 20 cents a gallon. The bigger the better, the longer the more status, and the more luxurious the more customers.
43,000 ORIGINAL miles have been clocked, on this beautifully restored Buick. Benefitting from a frame off restoration, complete interior revamp, and a rebuilt engine, this car can go down the highway at today's speeds, but it will get the looks of a classic.
During the 8-year restoration, the body and sheet metal were painstakingly stripped, repaired as needed, and restored, prior to the application of the primers, and then the two-tone paint. All chrome was polished or re-plated by Librandi's, one of the country's premier chrome restoration shops. Mint green over cream with a cream top, and all the chrome in very good condition, this car is delicious!
Virtually all new interior surfaces as pertaining to the two-tone tan square tweed seats, dark brown vertical pleated seat uppers, and backs for the front bench seats. The door panels have the same pattern treatment, and are framed with a slate gray paint, that is also seen on the top of the metal dash. The front of the dash makes use of the mint green mixed with plenty of a big chromed horizontal climate control center, round gauges, and a curved mounted chrome radio that sports B U I C K pre-set pushbuttons. Fronting the dash is an original restored steering wheel. Also noted is the addition of modern seat belts. A new headliner covers the interior ceiling. The corresponding floor has a dark brown thick loop carpet with nary a mark.
Thought to be one of the greatest engines of all time, the ultra-smooth and highly desirable 263ci Fireball straight 8. This will produce 128 Horsepower, and coupled to Buick's Dynaflow automatic transmission, this car is a cinch to drive, and it will keep up with modern day traffic.
Noted is the removal and substantial rebuild of the engine. Also performed was the rebuild of the radiator, water pump, starter motor, generator and electrical system. Also, the Dynaflow transmission was removed from the car, and completely rebuilt by a noted Dynaflow specialist, then re-installed. A full suspension rebuild including shocks, springs, wheel bearings brake lines and hoses, and new tires. Now we can view a completely rust free, and very clean underside which has undergone extensive work.
These cars are massive examples of how engineers and designers can work together to create a car that is functional as well as beautiful, utilizing all the technology that was available in 1952. A beautiful two-toned example that has all the chrome you will ever need, and all the status you'll ever want, all done for you and ready to drive away down the PA Turnpike at speed.
