Muscle Machines cover car with a 6 1/2 page spread. It made their top ten list of the "World's Fastest Muscle Cars". These special ordered A12 performance package cars were only available mid year which is why they are referenced as 69 1/2s. They were all made on just 2 days- either March 29th or April 26th. The package included a performance built 440 with a 6-pack, ram air lift off hood, h.d. trans, 4.10 Dana rear, h.d. suspension, h.d. drum brakes, black steel rims with performance tires and more. Only 1,907 were built total ever. Only 826 were hardtop 4-speeds.
This one has undergone a meticulous rotisserie restoration. Documented with an M in the vin, original build sheet and fender tag.
A previous owner of this car found our ad and emailed us. Here is what he had to say: I was the original owner of this car during and after restoration by Smothers Super Cars in Owasso, OK. The write up and the video are spot on and it is one of the nicest Bee's you will ever come across as a driver and something you can take to the track on the weekend. Nice to see all of the pictures which does do the car justice.
EXTERIOR: The body is laser straight, panels fit right. It was repainted it's original Bright Red color using premium Spies Hecker paint. It was given 3 coats of primer, 3 coats of color and 4 coats of clear. It was wet sanded with 1,000 and 2,000 grit paper in between each coat. The paint is about 20 years old and has proven itself. The finish is red glass! The light weight fiberglass lift off hood is in mint shape. We have a new set of prop rods to display the hood lifted up. The Bumble Bee stripe is a cool accent. The vinyl top looks new. All the chrome looks like new- bumpers, vent window frames, handles etc. The stainless trim was straightened and polished. The glass is exceptionally clear. The weatherstrips and seals were all replaced. The grill, tail panel and lenses are mint. These all came with 15 inch painted steel rims with chrome lug nuts. Each one is wrapped in reproduction redline tires.
INTERIOR: Restored like new from carpet to headliner. Down on the floor are bright red carpets with embroidered Super Bee mats. The seat cushions feel firm, the upholstery fits tight and looks new. It has complete set of factory red seat belts. The inside metal is painted slick. Door panels, armrests, handles and cranks were replaced. Headliner is mint without a single wrinkle, dome light works. The dash area is restored like new. It has the optional Rallye gauges with tachometer. The gauges are all functional, even the clock. The knobs, bezels, steering wheel, heater controls, glovebox are all mint. The factory radio has been rebuilt with an FM stereo conversion. There are new speakers in the factory locations. The best part is that Hurst shifter sticking out of the floor!
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The motor has been professionally rebuilt to the performance specs. It looks like it left the factory. On top is the correct Edelbrock intake and 3 Holley carbs. The carbs are restored and working properly. It has correct ram air system. Detailed with correct plug wires, hoses, clamps, battery etc. Every thing looks proper- wires are run neatly, battery is secured, horns and squirters are hooked up. The engine bay is clean metal painted gloss red. The vin on the core support matches the car, the original vin tag is attached.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Detailed and complete. The metal is all clean with a gloss red finish. New rubber mat and weatherstrip. It is complete with a restored spare and jack assembly.
UNDERSIDE: This car was on a rotisserie so the bottom could be restored like new. The chassis and components were completely removed. You can tell every grommet, nut and bolt was replaced or restored. The bottom of the car was sandblasted to bare metal. It was then prepped and correctly painted with slop gray primer, red overspray from the body and a small amount of undercoat. The chassis was entirely rebuilt and painted semi gloss black. The A12s were treated to a heavy duty suspension: aka the police handling package. This included bigger torsion bars, sway bar, hemi leaf springs and more. They all came with h.d. 11 inch drum brakes. The brake system was restored, the e-brake is hooked up. Fuel system was replaced including the tank, straps, lines etc. The exhaust has cross over pipe and correct tips. Looking up at the motor it is clean, has a high torque starter. There is a Lakewood scatter shield attached to the correct A-833 4-speed. They installed a Centerforce dual friction clutch. In back is the correct Dana 60 rear end with 4.10 sure grip gears.
The A12s are a significant part of the muscle car history. Practically a factory built race car. Very sought after today. I don't think I'm stretching the truth when I say a red, 4-speed Super Bee may be the most desirable of them all. The magazine is cool because it tells the story of the car wh
