DESCRIPTION

Tri-5 builds don't turn out this cool without a lot of planning, a ton of effort, and a large amount of coin. Featuring brilliant white-over-red paint, a stout 350 V8 crate motor, and a sumptuous custom interior, this 1955 Chevrolet 210 is the perfect vintage cruiser to take on a cross-country jaunt with the family, and will knock 'em dead at the local cruise night.



Building a cool Shoebox isn't easy, and making it look unique without radical alterations is a trick in itself, one that the pros who built this 2-door 'Post' seem to have mastered. Straight sheetmetal and correct detailing give this '55 an honest, top driver-quality look that will earn both respect and admiration on the street, because pretty much everyone digs a super-clean Tri-5. Bodywork is extremely well done, and with that slick Torch Red and White paint, the effect is both contemporary and vintage. Two-tone Tri-5s are timeless, and nobody will argue that it doesn't give the car a more appropriate look, especially with the bright colors and all that shiny chrome. During the rebuild, all the original trim, brightwork, and chrome appeared to have been replaced because it's all really shining up like new. Although the paint was completed a few years back and shows a few very minor signs of use, there really is no downside to any Shoebox Chevy when it's put together this well. And while it's not exactly a sleeper, this sweet little Chevy has all the right moves, with a raked stance that let's everyone know it can throw down any time, any place.



Perfectly complimenting the bright exterior is a wonderful light gray and white interior, a rather subdued combination that would look right at home in a much more expensive vehicle. The original bench was chucked in favor of comfortable low-back power buckets, and they've been upholstered in high-end upholstery with squared-off patterns in the centers, and a comfy bench was outfitted to match out back. Stylish two-tone door panels were tailored to complement the seats at the flanks, although the builders couldn't resist a bit of flash and covered the seatbelts and floors in plush, blood-red carpeting that insulates the entire cabin nicely. The window moldings and steel dash were coated in the same elegant White paint found outside, with bright chrome accents on the door hardware, gauge bezel, and tilt steering column providing just enough bling inside. A modern billet steering wheel with a comfortable leather rim was fitted at the head of the driver's cockpit, and just beyond it a modern all-in-one gauge layout mimics the instruments of old, yet keeps a keener eye on the upgraded hardware under the hood. Modern A/C has been added using an under-dash unit and fills the cabin with cold air, and that tall Lokar shifter that splits the seats manages a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission below. Entertainment comes from an Kenwood multimedia LED unit built into a custom housing under the dash, and in addition to powering a thundering JL Audio/Kenwood stereo system with speakers stashed throughout the cabin, there's also a back-up camera wired to it. The red carpets are plush, the headliner is taut, and there's plenty of room in the backseat for all your friends. Out back the trunk has been custom finished with red carpets to match the cabin, along with a custom panel that neatly stores away the car's wiring.



The great thing about the small block Chevy's longevity is that you can drop a modern motor under the hood of a vintage shoebox and it fits perfectly. Thanks to that smooth-running and powerful 350 V8 crate engine (with an estimated 36K miles on the clock), this 210 cruises effortlessly at modern speeds, starts easily, and parts are plentiful just about anywhere in the country, so long trips are worry-free affairs. With plenty of giddy-up and the benefits of modern compression, it's happy on pump gas and an electronic ignition system fires it instantly. Power is boosted thanks to an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor atop an Edelbrock airgap intake, and long-tube headers. Finned valve covers and a matching air cleaner further dress up the engine bay, along with a shiny new 12-volt alternator, modern A/C compressor, and newer power brake system that was finished to match the engine bay. A big radiator with an electric fan keeps it cool under the harshest conditions, and with those headers feeding into an H-pipe Flowmaster dual exhaust system, it has an authoritative rumble to it. The chassis is solid but not detailed and features upgrades throughout, including a Camaro front clip, sway bars fore and aft, and power steering and Wilwood power 4-wheel disc brakes that all work to improve the 210's road manners. The 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission means highway cruising is definitely on the menu, and it spins a sturdy Currie posi-traction rear end.
