The 1928 Ford Model A changed the world. This amazing automobile showed how large and important the automobile was to the young, growing mobile country. On the day the car was introduced ten percent of the US population went to see it in person. It was a completely new-designed, sleek automobile that could do 40 miles per hour. It was easy to drive, it looked magnificent and it cost Five Hundred Dollars. Five Million were sold. The country loved it. The iconic Model A has a profile recognizable the world over and they remain very popular today, almost 100 years later.
We are pleased to present this gorgeous 1928 Model A that is as original as can be found anywhere. It was previously repainted in metallic black with red trim sometime before our current owner bought the car 12 years ago. The previous owner had owned the car since the 1970’s. Both current and former owners lavished TLC on the Model A. The car is currently in Florida where it is garaged all of the time except for short drives. If the distance is more than 15 miles, the car is trailered. The previous owner lived in PA and kept the car in a climate controlled garage all year long. Our Model A is the Deluxe version, which is the highest trim level available.
This mostly original Model A is all steel. The body, the fenders, wheels, glass and just about everything else is original as it came from the Ford factory. The big change is the gleaming, professionally done, metallic black paint job. It suits this Model A perfectly. It is tastefully offset by the maroon red trim stripe that encircles the cabin just below the windows. That same maroon or black cherry also covers the original real wire wheels. The running boards carry the luggage rack on either side as well as featuring the Ford script on the metal step plate. Those two items are part of the Deluxe version of the Model A. The wire screen with the Ford script is found right in front of the radiator. It is all topped with a working Moto Meter. This gorgeous, super clean Model A is going to make its new buyer very happy.
The interior of our black beauty is just as it was when it left the Ford factory in 1928. The original seats, headliner and door panels all have been retained and now recovered in period correct material just like the original fabric. The interior looks super. The dash, steering wheel, pedals and shift lever are in great condition and everything works. The odometer reads 59,554 and our owner believes that is the accurate mileage.
This vintage Model A’s mechanical condition is just as if the car were new. The original 4 cylinder flathead is all stock. The 200 cubic inch engine puts out about 40 horsepower, enough to power the car all day at 40 MPH. The one thing that has been changed in the name of reliability is the Zenith carb that our owners installed. A Ford 3-speed manual transmission shifts the gears just as it should. Closely scrutinizing the pictures will reveal all of the original suspension and mechanical brake parts are in excellent original condition. The brakes are mechanical and stop the car as they should. Our Model A starts up every time and the engine runs fine.
The new owner should be reminded that the brakes on the fine Model A are the mechanical type and to use an extra measure of caution as the distance required to stop is more than in a modern car. The beautiful black Model A should not be driven on the highway as its top speed is approximately 40 Mph.
A car with almost 100 years of history and in excellent condition from top to bottom, this 1928 Model A is an ideal entry into the classic car hobby. The car is also ideal for any serious collector. Few Model A cars are in such wonderful original condition. The upgrades that have been done ensure that the car will have many years of life left as a driver. Good luck bidding.
