The big news for 1970 was a special Hurst SSJ version, a semi-custom conversion with an electric sunroof, gold-colored wheels, and a Hurst shifter.

1970 Pontiac GTO

In the GTO continued and once again received styling changes . Restyled with a new front end with four exposed headlamps wrapped in an Endura bumper, new body creases, and a redesigned rear end. A new 455 engine was added as well as the rare Vacuum Operated Exhaust option. The VOE option was an attempt to simplify the old rodding trick of opening up the exhaust system for more power. With the VOE option, the driver could pull the knob under the dash and engine vacuum was routed to a diaphragm on each muffler where it opened an internal baffle and gave the exhaust an express route through the muffler, reducing backpressure and increasing power. The 1970 GTO with the 400-cid 366-hp V-8 was capable of 0-60 in 6 seconds and 14.6 seconds in the quarter mile. The 455-cid 360-hp GTO hardtop registered 6.6 seconds 0-60 and a 14.8 second quarter mile.

GTO shared Tempest sheet metal combined with a standard Endura rubber nose. Recessed grilles were housed in two oval cavities and the letters "GTO" were in the drivers side insert. Also there was GTO lettering behind the front wheel openings and flared, crease sculptured fenders were used. Standard equipment included bucket seats, twin air scoops, sports type springs and shocks, glove box, dual exhaust, 3-spd manual floor shift, vinyl trimmed padded dashboard, heavy duty clutch, carpeting, ashtray and panel courtesy lamps, deluxe steering wheel, and G78 x 14 black sidewall fiberglass tires. A Code 332-WT1 "The Judge" option was available again. It had a 400-cid Ram-Air V-8, G70 x 14 fiberglass black sidewall tires, side stripes, black textured grilles, T-handle shifters on manual floor shift, Rally II wheels less trim rings, rear deck air foil, and Judge stripes and decals.
