The Consul was a great selling car for Ford, however, most were 4-door saloons, along with a few estate cars were made by the coachbuilder, Abbott. Beginning in 1953 a convertible by famed coachbuilder, Carbodies, became available. The Consul featured many innovations, including a new 1508cc 47-horsepower engine with overhead valves, and its 3-speed manual gearbox is shifted with the assist of a hydraulic clutch. The Consul was also the first British production car to use the groundbreaking MacPherson strut independent front suspension, and was also the first British Ford with modern unibody construction. The rarity of this car cannot be overstated; you are simply unlikely to find anyone like it anywhere in the world. It would be a wonderful addition to the finest of collections.
