1997 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
In 1951 a group of Harley Earl's "Special Projects" crew began work on a GM sports car. Bob McLean designed a general layout for the car which was originally code named, "Opel." William Durant, the founder of GM, said a wallpaper pattern he saw in a Paris hotel in 1908 inspired the bow tie logo. Supposedly, he ripped off a small piece of it and brought it back to Detroit. Myron Scott, at the time Chevrolet's Chief photographer, is credited with coming up with the Corvette name, drawing from the small, fast warships of the "Corvette" class.
A first year C5 Corvette, might be masquerading as Darth Vader. Black on Black with glowing red louvered trim taillights is truly the only color seen on this sports car save for the red brake calipers.. A garage kept car, well maintained, is ready to drive away from its current home at the Classic Auto Mall, only it will do it very fast!
Black covers every fiberglass surface. A 1-piece removable fiberglass roof panel sits on top, and retractable halogen headlamps are up front, along with halogen fog lamps. Standard Corvette wheels are on all corners, and fiberglass panels are present in good condition. A remote operated rear glass reveals a decent sized storage compartment. Polished aluminum wheels in 17 inch for in front and 18 inches on the rear add shine to every corner of this car.
Black leather wraps the buckets, and steering wheel, as well as center console. There are many convenience options on this car such as analog instrumentation with a digital odometer, AM/FM/Single CD player, power windows, power door locks, power seats, power steering and power brakes. Acceleration slip regulation (ASR) is present for enhanced stability. A clean dash as well as fair carpeting complete the black package.
A 5.7 liter 345hp V8 sits under the clamshell hood, and can be accessed very conveniently. It presents with electronic fuel injection, and a 4-speed automatic transmission model 4L60E, with overdrive back the mill up. Electronic selective ride and handling can be adjusted on the fly.
Typical condition for a car of this age and mileage, ABS disc brakes are seen, as well as a performance axle ratio differential. C5 Corvette suspension is all around and 4-wheel power disc brakes are on this beauty.
It's loud, it's fast, it handles like it's on rails, it cruises on a seemingly cushion of air, and you are in a leather cocoon with all the conveniences one may need at your fingertips. Need I say more?
Darth Vader with the deep throaty dual exhaust emanating from the 5.7 liter mill, and the ability to strike in a moment's notice. Wrapped in creature comforts, and plenty of leather, this Corvette is ready to be your daily driver, or just a shower. Either way the force will be with you.
