The Mercury Comet was produced by Mercury, a division of the Ford motor company, from 1960 through 1967. The original Comet design was based on the Ford falcon platform which was also introduced in 1960. The two sister cars shared many of the same engine, suspension, and chassis components. The Comet had its own distinct body lines, exterior ornamentation, and interior trim. The Comet was a "big car ride, with small car handling".
