1970 Dodge Challenger
1970 was the debut of the Challenger, Dodge's answer to the Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro.

1970 Dodge Challenger

New for 1970 was the Dodge Challenger. This was Dodge's answer to the Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro even though it was a bit late. It was offered in two body styles, hardtop and convertible. You could choose from three different packages, the R/T (road and track), SE (special edition), and for 1970 only you could get the T/A (Trans Am). The T/A was built for the sole purpose of Dodge being able to race in the Trans Am circuit. The challenger had engine options for everybody with a 225 cu. in. base six-cylinder or a 318 cu. in. base V-8 with two 340 cu. in. V-8s, three 383 cu. in. V-8s, two 440 cu. in. V-8s, the famous 426 cu. in. HEMI! The T/A was only available with the 340 cu. in. "Six Pak" engine. A three speed manual transmission was standard on all engines and you could get a four speed manual or the TorqueFlite automatic transmission on all as an option

Notes: * High Performance Available Transmissions Axle Decoding Location Of Axle Codes: A metal tag is bolted to the assembly, giving the axle ratio or tooth count (if tooth count - divide the larger number by the smaller number, this is the ratio.) Locking axles have a metal tag with the letter "S" on it. Note: Since tags can easily be missing, the approximate ratio can be determined by marking both the a wheel and the driveshaft; turn the wheel one complete turn and the number of times the driveshaft rotates is the ratio. Locking axles can be identified by raising the complete axle assembly and turning one wheel; if the other wheel turns the the same direction it is a locking axle and if it turns the opposite direction it is a non-locking axle.
