1968 Chrysler Newport

The introduction of the Newport two-door hardtop coupe and convertible with wood grained exterior paneling took place at the 1968 Chicago Automobile Show in February. In 1967, Chrysler was America's 10th ranked auto manufacturer. Dressed up versions of the base Newport offerings and available in a more limited range of body styles. Standard equipment included all items found on base Newport's, plus bright seat side shields, front and rear foam seat cushions, bench seats with front center armrest, and bright upper door moldings on the Custom four door sedan. As on base Newport models, the center section of the redesigned grille met the forward edge of the hood and then faded inward, as it approached the deeply inset four beam headlamps. This year's Newport had a standard 383 cubic inch V8 engine or if that's not enough power an optional 440 TNT V8 is available.
