The 1965 Galaxie toted a new appearance as well as design. It had a wider, more immense big car look which contributed to its extra convenience options including reversible keys that fit into the locks with both sides up and doors locking from the outside without using the key. Adding to the comfort and convenience, the luggage compartment increased by 2 cubic feet offering over 19 cubic feet of storage room and supplied owners a convenient lockable storage compartment located beneath the load floor on all station wagons.
The 1965 Ford also offered a Wide range of engine choices from the standard all-new Big Six to the Thunderbird High Performance. When it comes to transmissions, among the four options available were the standard 3-speed manual, the Cruise-O-Matic with 3 forward speed gears and two drive ranges, Overdrive, and a 4-speed manual.
New vibration absorbing “bridge-type” body and frame construction features eight new butyl rubber body mounts located so the body is mounted to the frame like a sturdy suspension bridge reducing metal to metal contact between frame and body thus reducing the sensation of road shock. Along with a new 3 inch suspension with full action soft coil springs, Ford offered its drivers a smoother ride with more stability.
