Contributed deac61galaxie
A few weeks before I graduated from high school in 1963, my Dad passed away very suddenly. His 1961 Galaxie that we both enjoyed very much became my first car. I kept it as long as I could, but eventually had to sell it. For many years I looked for a rust free replacement so I could replicate that car. I recently found a one owner rust free example in GA and bought it sight unseen. I have the window sticker, build sheet, purchase invoice, and service records. The restoration process began immediately. It is shown here as I received it. It is in Garden Turquoise and is about to become Mint Green over Laurel Green. Currently, the engine compartment and trunk compartment are redone. The 352 V8 and Fordomatic were rebuilt and are being installed this week. Rebuilt Power Steering and Power Brake units are also being installed along with all new front end components, generator, starter, Petronix ignition, and an aluminum radiator. In November, it goes back in the body shop to have the exterior and interior repainted. The correct wsw tires have arrived. I have all of the interior fabrics and vinyls and headliner. I'm still waiting for the correct green door panels to arrive. By Spring, I will once again be driving the last car my Dad drove and the first car I drove. Mission accomplished. |
