The “all new” ’55 Chevy was offered with “Motoramic” styling, improved handling and a new V8 that sizzled. New from the ground up, the ’55 Chevy was much inspired by Clare Mackichan, Harry Barr and Edward Cole. Touting a “Turbo Fire” V8 block with new state of the art features that included a new innovative block casting technique, tougher forged steel crankshaft, lightweight aluminum pistons, lightweight independent rocker arms and short-stroke cylinder dimensions, all available with dual exhausts and four barrel carburetors to boost the hp even more. Chevrolet matched smooth handling with it’s new performance by modifying the chassis to be longer, and added wider rear springs riding outside the frame rails, diagonally mounted shock absorbers to match, and an improved “Glide Ride” suspension with coil springs, unequal-length a-arms, and new “spherical joint” (ball joint) geometry. Boasting all this, new beauty and much more, America went wild for the new 1955 Chevrolet 150, 210 and Bel Air.
