In an era of performance the Oldsmobile 442 was first introduced as an option package in 1964 on the F-85 and Cutlass models (4-barrel carburetor, 4-speed transmission, 2-exhausts). With competition on the rise the 442 was released with much success and became it’s own model in 1968 and remained through 1971, where it retained itself as an option again. Initially dubbed 4-4-2 the option package was based on its combination of four-barrel carburetor, four-speed transmission, and dual (2) exhausts.
