2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt

This is a design that has struck a chord with the American public, even if you\'ve never seen the movie, the spec on the modern Bullitts is striking and desirable and why we hope they keep producing them even as the Mustang evolves.

Exterior
In historic Dark Highland Green, this car is immediately recognizable and distinct. No horse on the grille is another cue and those 19-inch black wheels are a giveaway that this one of about 8,000 2019 Bullitts. The dark green background makes every other feature on the car pop with color. The polished rim on the grille and wheels, the clear lenses of the marker lights, the tail lights which look blood red, and the spectacular red brake calipers. The vents and contoured hood are matched in design by the subtle contoured roof leading to a slightly upturned tail. The whole car is both aggressive looking and subdued at the same time, which makes it completely usable while special enough to be shown. A Bullitt logo mock gas cap in the rear \"caps off\" a stunning exterior. We found two minor imperfections in the paint which are almost imperceptible.

Interior
Standard GT door panels in the car and everything is Ebony, including the \"hockey stick\". A brushed metal pull handle deviates from the black and unlike previous Mustang generations, these door panels hold up to age and usage. A Bullitt engraved door sill does not illuminate but is still cool and exclusive. For the piece-de-resistance, the bucket seats are green-stitched, and leather wrapped Recaros, this option means firm bolstering, ultimate comfort, and those racy gaps reserved for a 4 or 5-point harness. We note a bit of rub wear on the outside bolster, nothing a bit of leather dye can\'t fix! The back buckets are joined and provide decent bolstering to keep occupants on their side during turns. The crosshair Bullitt logo appears on the thick, leather wrapped steering wheel and the standard GT digital dashboard is backlit green in the Bullitt. The center stack contains the touchscreen and entertainment center and includes the optional navigation. Other elements to the optional package include blind spot monitoring, ambient lighting, and a 12-speaker B&O system which is XM, Apple Carplay, and Android Auto capable. Machined stainless steel fronts the rest of the dash, more an ode to race cars than the actual \'68 Bullitt which had wood applique. The stout, console mounted shifter has a white shifter knob which is also distinctive of this special edition. Down low and up high the black carpet and headliner look as good as new! The trunk is lined in gray flannel and looks untouched.

Drivetrain
The formidable 5.0 liter Coyote V8 is onboard and this pony begets 480 horsepower, but you can tell your friends \"about 500\" and still be honest. They are tied to an MT82 6-speed manual and head back to 3.73 gears in a limited slip differential. As denoted by the red calipers on visible disks, power Brembo brakes reign this horse in. A Bullitt branded tower brace adds stability to the car while a factory cold air induction system and cone filter help it breathe.

Undercarriage
Very little wear is found underneath, all looking very stock and clean. There\'s the tiniest bit of surface rust on some suspension pieces but nothing unexpected or even noteworthy. Some brake dust on the inner wheels, not a demerit, are simply noticed. Dual exhaust meets in a large catalytic converter then split off again to meet original mufflers and out through dual twin black exhaust tips. MacPherson struts handle the front suspension while an independent multi-link design is in rear. The car is equipped with the optional Magne-Ride active damping system which improves response to road conditions. It has nothing to do with how your armpits will feel after a spirited ride in this high performance beast.

Drive-Ability
And speaking of spirited rides, we have to fully restrain ourselves with these Coyotes because they sound so damn good! We wanted to hear more but we gently strolled around our loop to make sure all cylinders were firing and that all the electronics work. And they do. The car is barely broken in and is in excellent condition, all systems go!

Steve McQueen is synonymous with high performance cars and the Bullitt is a legend. But even if you don\'t know much about him or the movie or the original car, this tribute is a beautiful and capable car that departs from normal GT Mustangs. Tell you tree hugging friends your car is green and named for a wild horse. Tell your car buddies your Bullitt has 480 wild horses. Everyone is happy!
