The Nomad was a proto-type that debuted as a Corvette Nomad at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City for General Motors Motorama in 54' . It has been called the WALDORF ever since.
As a large success and huge hit the unique features were applied to a Chevrolet Belair two-door station wagon and put into production as a Nomad in 1955. The bodies were made at the Cleveland plant, and where then shipped to the Flint, Baltimore, St. Louis, Tarrytown, Atlanta, Kansas City, Oakland, Los Angeles, Jamestown, Willow Run, and Norwood plants for assembly.
