DESCRIPTION

1972 Chevrolet C10 Pickup

Although the C10 most commonly identifies as the half-ton, short-bed pickup, it came in different styles. The C10 featured a 115-inch wheelbase for the pickup equipped with the 6.5-foot bed and a 127-inch wheelbase for models with the 8-foot bed. Chevy sold pickups as a chassis and cab that required buyers to custom fit their choice of beds. Other styles featured the Fleetside, or flat panel cargo box, and the Stepside, which had the rear wheels outside the bed and a step mounted between the cab and wheel wells. C10 models also included a panel truck and the Suburban sport utility vehicle.

For consignment and right out of 1972, a clean and mostly rust free short bed with some clear coat issues in the paint and aging on the chrome in the form of dimpling and pock markings with peel off. A vinyl bed covering, well used bed, and 18-inch blackout Ridler wheels along with Cheyenne trim package and you are ready to work in 1972 C10 style.

Exterior
Resprayed in Ochre and clear coated with clear coating wearing off giving this exterior paint a splotchy look greets us upon first arrival. The front is fairly clean in the grille department with a straight egg crate design running from headlight to headlight and framed with a shiny slightly worn bumper below. Headlight bezels have just a hint of yellowing. A nice bowtie emblem in blue is in the center. Running up the hood we see a straight crease in the center going for the windshield. Door with good gaps have some wear in the black center of the trim spear that runs through them. The rocker edge below the door has some surface rust and paint wear off as a result of the rust. A short bed leads us rearward where another bumper frames the bottom of the Chevrolet badged gate and flanking taillights in their original form. Some of the black background for the badge on the gate is chipped off. Pull down the gate and we have a well used bed that shows dirt and wear but no rust. The bed is covered with a black vinyl snap on covering. The cab roof is painted white and shows some rust on the drip edge. Door handles are slightly pitted. 18-inch Blackened Ridler wheels are on all 4 corners.

Interior
Cheyenne trim level uses a center panel for the doors which shows in camel tan vinyl and this has an embossed Sheridan style decorative strip on top of the panel. A black arm rest is in, and shiny cranks and actuators are seen. Nice black carpeting provides the base for the camel tan full vinyl bench which is in good condition. In front, Ochre painted steel has a black instrument panel in front of the driver and a billet style rally steering wheel is on top of a factory column. The dash center panel has a digital radio and the temp slider panel below. Black padded vinyl crack free is on top of the dash. The headliner is brown vinyl within an Ochre painted steel frame.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 350ci orange/red painted block in V8 format. It has a 2-barrel carb on top and a 3 speed manual Saginaw transmission on the back. A 12 bolt rear is in back for the tire turning. The engine bay is unrestored.

Undercarriage
Some mild to heavy surface rust is noted underneath. The X frame remains solid despite the heavy rust. We see a newer exhaust which includes headers at the engine and Flowmaster Mufflers. Disc brakes in fronts and drums for the back.

Drive-Ability
This truck was a true driver shuttling our consignors to and fro around the county. So we figured it would have no problem on our Classic Auto Mall test track, and indeed it did not. It started right up with a thunderous growl and ran terrifically. Plenty of power, nice handling and power steering that floats like a butterfly, and an engine that sings like a bee.

A little TLC is needed on the exterior paint and light rust but overall a good example, runs great and has a nice interior. The covering for the bed keeps things dry while you are haulin\'.
