1970 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

This 1970 C3 fiberglass shark styled body Corvette is up for consignment and deserves a serious look. With this car sporting the convertible, as well as a 350ci mill with tuned-port injection, we could call it a high performance small block much like a welterweight fighter, quick, powerful, reasonably light, highly durable, and brutally effective.

Exterior
This shark with its chromed bumpers and lower chromed egg crate grille is in the sweet spot of the C3 years. Just prior to the performance killing EPA emissions add-ons, and still enjoying chrome, the remainder of the body in fiberglass is a hue of Corvette Monza Red. Not overly glossy, the paint presents overall in good condition with a few chips, scratches and bubbling in numerous areas. Pinstriping has a strong presence on each panel of the car and the silver gills are highlighted by their contrast. The coveted scripted \"Stingray\" is on the front fenders while the mirror on the door, (driver\'s side only), window surrounds, and the bumpers aft and rear are chrome and in fine condition. The white canvas convertible top shows some age and a small tear was noted; the rear plastic window is ever so slightly fogged due to age. A body-colored hardtop comes with the car. 15-inch Cragar SS wheels are all around wrapped with 225/70/15 tires. Bringing up the rear are downward turned tailpipes in shiny chrome.

Interior
A swing of the sculpted doors and we see red styled door panels which present nicely. Inside are red leather high back buckets with white tuck and roll inserts. The dash, center console, steering wheel and carpet are red....Prince would be proud! A gauge cluster housed in black paint occupies the center tower and wood applique surrounds the automatic shifter...it\'s in fine, driver-quality condition. A radio, much later than 1970, is also present in the middle. In lieu of a glove box, document pockets sit in front of the passenger. Behind the buckets is a large, carpeted storage area in...yep...red carpet well preserved and topped by two external speakers.

Drivetrain
The car is equipped with a consignor stated 1988 350ci V8 with Tuned-Port Injection...so when you pop the hood, a few jaws might drop as the flat, piped intake grabs your eyes...a more modern transplant in a vintage Vette...we\'re talking inklings of an old-school resto-mod! A 4-speed 700R4 automatic backs the engine and sends the spin back to a 3.70 Positraction rear.

Undercarriage
Underneath is very well preserved with just a slight patina on some of the metal parts, but solid steel and fiberglass mounted to it. Some suspension parts and exhaust have surface rust but overall, the underside is relatively clean. C3 independent suspension all around and power discs for all 4 corners. A clean dual exhaust snakes its way rearward from the mill intersected only by stock style mufflers.

Drive-Ability
\"Baby, you\'re much too fast, yes you are....\". The TPI 350 cuber is right at home in this vintage Vette and provides plenty of power with all the grunt and torque of a C4. Great acceleration, sports-car ride, good handling and straight bias free braking. The wide and low stance of the car...with legs stretched out in front you...is reminiscent of a race car and the well-bolstered seats add to the illusion. We noted that the AC was blowing warm, (fitting with no lines attached to the compressor), and the power antenna did not \"rise\" to the occasion.

We hope you don\'t think \"driver quality\" is a bad connotation...it\'s not. While some people prefer a pristine garage queen or concours-level restoration, we at the mall love seeing cars that you can drive and have been driven. Both schools of thought are valid and honored here at Classic Auto Mall...and who doesn\'t have the dream of owning one for show and one for go?! No reason why you can\'t show this 1970...but also drive it with what we like to call \"responsible reckless abandon!\"
