Hello, I am hoping someone can shed some light on a big mystery for me. My father purchased a 57 Corvette 20 some years ago and had it registered in Michigan for about 18 year no problem. A few years ago he had it shipped out here (Nevada) and when he went to the DMV to get plates they needed to verify the VIN on the registration matched the VIN in the car, however the plate that should be inside the drivers door is not there. There are 2 holes where it should be but it is not there. We have searched high and low to try to find a VIN somewhere else on the car with no luck. We had it into a body shop that deals with classic cars here in town and they were unable to find one and suggested that this car was not legitimate. If someone can tell me exactly where to look for the VIN, either on the frame or engine block or somewhere where there should be one, I would like to verify if this car is in fact legitimate or not. Hopefully someone can save the day and I can find it, however in the event that I am not able to find one, what can we do? Is it still possible to sell the car? Thanks for taking the time to read this. -Matt

There are also place on the net that can get you a replacement Vin plate identical to the one you are missing. If the frame vin does not ,match your car pink vin, it does not mean that it is not legitimate. Your vin plate could have gone missing and been reissued, or your car may have been rebodied. Search the frame vin and if it is legitimate eg not stolen Have the plate made to that vin and convert your vin on your title. If it does match have a plate made and screw it back on the car Cheers, Randy

Thank you for the great information. It appears that the guy at the body shop has no idea what he was talking about. I posted this question on another forum as well and got some great info. I know I have to lift the body off to be able to get to it to verify. Thanks Everyone! -Matt
