i took out the two screws on the back end of the top with the tool, what else do i do to remove the top? it won't move and i don't want to screw it up.

If your 88 has a full Targa Roof then you have to undo the rear bolts and then under the visor you will see two holes. One on each side
Insert the tool into these holes and undo those screws as well.
There about the same place [inline] as the rears so just unscrew and pop off the top.
ENSURE you do not lose the black conical parts as they are the tighteners for the screw alignments for the Targa Top
