I have a '57 Chevrolet Bel Air 2 door hardtop that has no vin tag inside the door jamb area. The car does have a cowl tag on the firewall that states it is a Canadian car. Is there any way to identify the options the car had from the factory with the firewall tag? The car is registered to the number on the firewall. I was told Canadian cars did not have vin tags in the door jamb area, but cannot confirm if this is true. Do the two numbers (vin and cowl tags) match or corespond in this model? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Check out www.cars.com, theres a 1 800 number. I believe that they can answer the question. To the best of my knowledge, all vehicles in the chevy line up had another tag on the A pillar...this is the door opening towards the windsheild. This tag is the VIN number. The cowel tag shows the interior and exterior color code and body style. I have manuals that decipher these codes.......
