Is the toilet paper oil filter on my '64 Ford 3/4 ton 292 engine necessary? It has a spin on filter and I will not be towing with it. Thanks, Scott

Thru out my career as a auto mechanic, restorer, engine swoop genious the alltime whorst accessary was the toilet paper filter , I have had to rebuild more engines then the law should alow it's not if but when that filter starts to deterirate all that material finds it's way to your oil pump and then to your bearings and it's not a preaty sight. Please do yourself a big favor and do not use it I hope iv'e saved another motor . Oh and as long as your using a quality oil and a quality oil filter then towing should not be an issue "OLDSCHOOL" ,

according to the ford interchange and accessory guide the tp filter was never a ford item . it was a popular item in the 50s and 60s i had a Early mustang that had one on it but my father removed it and told me not to ever use one then showed me why they fall apart and sag down leaving a gap for unfiltered oil to go thru, i have seen many ads for them and they look like they may have improved but as the old man said they are made to be used once and flushed not used for oil filters
