I am preparing to build my 1st hipo 289 and was wondering what the benefits are when using aluminum heads vs the factory heads. I would of course be altering the factory heads for better performance. My question is: Dont the aluminum heads have more of a reaction to the heat generated by the motor? What about the durability factor? This will be a weekend driver only but I still want reliability and performance! Any constructive critisism is welcome!! Thanks! Russell..

Aluminum heads are every bit as durable and you can run about one more point of compression on the same octane verses an iron head. Most of the cast ron factory heads leave much to be desired in stock form. The Trick-Flow 165's would be excellent on your 289 also the GT40's are now available in an improved flow aluminum version thru Ford Racing and available from Summit at around $900 a pair assembled. If your budget is a little on the tight side the World products Winsor Jr. is a good "bang for the buck"
