I received a 1965 Pontiac Catalina Station Wagon from my Grandfather. He bought it back in 1965 as the families car. He never had seat belts in it, and says it came that way from the factory. Please do not respond about what is sensible and safe, not interested in a lecture, just if the station wagon would come from factory without seat belts and anchorages... I have looked, and can not see the anchorages, and checked with the rest of my family, and they say it never had seat belts. Texas state law is: Texas Occupant Restraint Laws Texas Seat belt Laws Sec. 545.413. Safety Belts; Offense. A passenger vehicle or a seat in a passenger vehicle is considered to be equipped with a safety belt if the vehicle is required under Section 547.601 to be equipped with safety belts. ยง 547.601. SAFETY BELTS REQUIRED. A motor vehicle required by Chapter 548 to be inspected shall be equipped with front safety belts if safety belt anchorages were part of the manufacturer's original equipment on the vehicle. So the question is, do I need to have the seat belts installed or not? v/r Steven

Discovered Seatbelts were not required by US Law till 1968. Also found out that dealers would install the seatbelts as an option in 1965, a way they made extra money. The car maker would ship the seatbelts, and the dealer would install them for a price. Since my 1965 never had them installed, Texas Law states I do not need them. If anyone has any more informaiton, please respond... v/r Steven M. Ostrov

according to the Standard Catalog of American Cars 1946-1975 seat belts were standard equipment on the 65 Pontiac .also checked chevy and confirmed that GM made them on all models in 65.POSSIBLE THAT YOUR CAR WAS A EARLY PRODUCTION AND SLIPPED THROUGH.build sheet could confirm this .they are sometimes found under back seats or floor mats.body #would be on tag under hood.
