I've heard they did and did not. If they did, could you provide additional information as to location and number of digits?

ww4454, I too have been told that they can contain part of the cars vin # however I do know that the engine pads were stamped with the engine assembly stamp or "engine code", which identifies the engine assembly plant, assembly date, and engine application suffix code. It is located on a machined pad on the engine block. For V8's the pad is a forward extension of the passenger-side block at the bottom of the forward end of the head. For the 6-cylinder engine the pad is located on the passenger side of the block, near the forward end.
