I am trying to find out what type of ford mustang I need to convert to a shelby gt 500?? I was told by one person I would need a 65 but others have told me a 67 can someone help me out and give me the right information?

All Shelbys thru '67 were fastbacks (GT350 thru '66; GT350 or GT500 fr '67 on) and either fastbacks or convertibles fr '68 on. If it was just a matter of installing a big block powertrain it would be much simpler than aquiring the multitude of "Shelby specific" parts necessary to clone even a mediocre GT500. Short answer is: must be 1967 & up.
wikipedia shows 67 for the gt 500. 428 police interceptor was the engine. seems like it is the same block as 360, 390, etc.
