i have and(1968vw) i can not get the brake lighs or the turn signals to work/what do i need to do.

you should take the fuse out and put it back few times and there is a big chance you will see they are working again, they don't get rusty but easily oxidized so taking them out and putting back few times make them work

The only thing the brake and turn signal systems share is they are powered from the same fuse on a factory spec 1968 VW. See attached wiring diagram.

have you checked the fuses ? have seen good fuses that have lost contact due to moisture buildup if they are the pointed ones.sometimes rotating them will restore contact,if so they need points cleaned and recepticals also.
