The one we have has side cover that goes right up onto the cyl head and uses the small spark plugs i can get an engine from a 51 that could be rebuilt the one I have the owner left water in it and the block is cracked and engine will not turn it has been sitting since 1964.the Grandson would now like to get it running.

Is it a Chevy? Then yes.
YES , The flywheel housing will have to be changed to use the 48 starter OR a starter button added to engage the starter . oil pan is different but will clear frame. If I was doing the job would drop pan and inspect the rods they are poured bearings.
