The early 55 Bel Airs 2 and 4 door post sedans that were two toned had just the roof and rain gutters painted. However, the hard top could have just the roof or the roof and upper quarters plus trunk painted. Two-tone painting became so popular that all hard tops and convertibles were ordered with this type of styling once it was seen how nice it appeared. The factor began painting the rear quarters on later models of the 55 Bel Air post models. They also brought the top color down to the belt line. Because the rear of the body was the top color, the trunk was also painted the top color. However, this didn’t apply to 210 models. The best way to determine what the look of your car was is to look at the paint number on the Fisher Body Tag which will usually tell you how the paint was applied.
