I am taking out the straight 6 out of my 53 Bel air and replacing it with a 283 sb. Anybody have any knowledge on a switch like this and what is going have to be done to make this work ?? Another ? Can I use the stock flywheel and clutch plate off of this straight 6 for this 283 ,w/ 3spd manuel tranny,

With any luck you may have a wide bolt patern on your 53 trans in witch case the V-8 bellhouseing will bolt right to it .If not you'll have get one that does, The firewall brases will have to be removed to get the engine in where it needs to be ,And NO the six flywheel will not work ,will need to replace cluch parts allso Stores like "Speedway Motors" can provide the front crossmember ,your 283 should have the short shaft water pump but it's usualy preferable to mount radiator in the front of radiator support for good clearance for the fan.AND dont forget a BALLIST RESISTER since you'll be going to go to 12 volts anyway,Dont have enough time to go thru everything but that will get you going on your project ,But if you where saying the 283 is going in with the V-8 trans then consider a early camero rearend .THAT should keep you busy for a while" and good luck "OLDSCHOOL"
