No, The first smog pump that I saw was on a new 1968 Chevelle. I had a 67 Chevelle and It did not come with one. Hope this helps.

I acquired a 57 Chevy from California back in 1975 and it had some kind of thermostatic hot water regulating devise mounted in the upper radiator hose secured by two hose clamps. The devise I believe had two vacuum ports on it. I was told by the previous owner that it was part of some sort of emissions system California had in place at that time. I can't confirm or deny that fact so there for to me it is just hear say. If you are curious about this issue I would suggest you research California's smog laws that they may have in effect back in 1957.
