1971 Chevrolet Malibu
1971 Malibu Chevelle SS

1971 Chevrolet Malibu

All 1971 Chevelles were redesigned with the new single headlight designs from the Monte Carlo and could be optioned with hood stripes and the cowl induction hood.

With high priced fuel and insurance premiums on top of the newer emissions standards the 1971 Chevelle saw a collapse in performance options. In response to GM's edict that all engines ran on unleaded fuel and to meet every restrictive emission standards, Chevrolet detuned all its engines and introduced two new entry level engines. The standard Chevelle engine was now a single exhaust two barrel - 350 V8, and optional was the 350 V8 4V with 270hp, the 402 engine previously known as a 396 was renamed the "Turbo Jet 400" and offered only 300hp. The LS6 454 was also no longer offered, and amazingly the LS5 454 returned with 365hp.
