1970 Dodge Charger
The 1970 Charger continued to use the same body as the in the previous year but received a few minor trim changes. You could still get the high performance Charger R/T. The R/T featured a 440-cid Magnum V-8 and there was a Special Edition (SE) package was available to Charger 500s and Charger R/Ts. Plus, a choice of Bumble Bee stripes were still available as in 1969. The 1970 Charger had concealed headlights and had either a 225-cid slant six or a 318-cid V-8 as base equipment.
The 1970 Dodge Charger featured new loop bumper, new front fenders and a new-lower priced version with bench seats and a more modes trim package.
Besides a new variety of colors including Top Banana, Panther Pink, Go Mango or Plum Crazy, a new HEMI hood cutout was an option for the 70’ Charger in which 440 or HEMI lettering was spelled out in block letter with silver reflective tape on either side and hood scallop inserts were painted black.

Options & Accessories
For 1970, you could order a special interior and exterior trim package called the Special Edition (SE) for both the Charger 500 and R/T. Among other things, it included deep dish wheel covers, hood-mounted turn signal indicators, leather bucket seats and a steering wheel and instrument panel woodgrain trim.

Axle Decoding
Location Of Axle Codes: A metal tag is bolted to the assembly, giving the axle ratio or tooth count (if tooth count - divide the larger number by the smaller number, this is the ratio.) Locking axles have a metal tag with the letter "S" on it.
Note: Since tags can easily be missing, the approximate ratio can be determined by marking both the a wheel and the driveshaft; turn the wheel one complete turn and the number of times the driveshaft rotates is the ratio. Locking axles can be identified by raising the complete axle assembly and turning one wheel; if the other wheel turns the the same direction it is a locking axle and if it turns the opposite direction it is a non-locking axle.

The first Paint Code identifies the roof or accent color. The second Paint Code identifies the body color. (For example, the combination W1-B3 on a Dodge would indicate the roof or accent area is in White and the body is finished in Light Blue Metallic.) Paint code plates are located in the engine compartment on the left wheel housing or the left fender side shield.
