Touting big-truck toughness but the riding smoothness of a Ford passenger car was the calling card of the 1964 Ford Custom Cab Pickups. Two stage rear springs and a long wheelbase along with cab components such as all welded design for fewer squeaks and rattles. 38 lbs. of insulation to help seal out heat and noise and husky double-wall doors. The double side-wall Styleside box was also the strongest ever. |

| KING PINS |
| NOT ALWAYS LEFT TO THE PRO'S. I WAS SO BUSY WITH WORK THAT WHEN I TOOK MY 64 F100 DOWN FOR ALIGNMENT I ALLOWED THEM TO DO THE KING PINS WHEN IT WOULDNT ALIGN WITHOUT THEM BEING SERVICED. SO I PICKED IT UP AND BOY THAT TURNED OUT TO BE A MISTAKE. STEERING WAS HARD AND STICKY IF THAT MAKES SENSE. SO I TORE IT DOWN WHEN I GOT TIME AND FOUNG THEY POUNDED THE SLEEVES IN AROUND THE PIN. BAD THING TO DO. FOR PROPER INSTALLATION YOU MUST PRESS THE SLEEVES INTO THE SPINDLE(12 TON PRESS REQUIRED OR A TRIP TO A MACHINE SHOP. MAKE SURE TO NOTE THE ALIGNMENT OF THE GREASE HOLE IN THE SPINDLE AND SLEEVE. YOU MUST ALIGN THEM IN ORDER TO GET GREASE THROUGH THE ZERK TO THE KING PIN. THEN THE KING PIN WILL NOT FIT UNTIL YOU "REAM" THE SLEEVES TO MATCH THE KING PIN. A KING PIN REAMER IS REQUIRED TO GET THE EXACT PITCH TO MATCH UPPER AND LOWER SLEEVES. HOWEVER, YOU CAN DO THIS WITHOUT A REAMER IN SITUATIONS LIKE MINE WHERE I HAD NO REAMER OR ACCESS TO ONE. USE A BRAKE WHEEL CYLINDER HONE AND A DRILL I USED TRANNY FLUID AS A LUBE DURING HONING. CAREFULLY CHECK PERIODICALLY TO SEE IF SHAFT WILL GLIDE INTO THE SLEEVE. NO FORCING OR TAPPING IN WITH A HAMMER. ONCE YOU HAVE IT SET WITH THE PIN FITTING HOW YOU LIKE IT, APPLY A LITTLE GREASE FOR ASSEMBLY AND GET'ER DONE. HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE, |
