This Imperial VIN: C576661, has been on jack stands since 1961 in and around Santa Paula, CA (west of LosAngeles near Thousand Oaks, CA). Where it was sidelined for mechanical repairs. It was found missing the radiator and the driveshaft was disconnected and tied to the frame at the rear axel. we find this indicative of it being towed to a new home in 1971 (window trip tic still in place). Also evidence of ongoing repairs are the numerous new parts inside the trunk including and extra carburetor. I have obtained a replacement 57 Imperial radiator which is included with the car. The milage is showing 13,879 miles, accurate but turned over in our opinion, but not verifiable. We believe the car made more than three trips across country in its short driving history. The previous owner was an employee of Lockheed Aircraft Corporation as there is a sticker on windshield, evidenced by a Lockheed Aircraft parking sticker from plant in Georgia and a 1958 Canada travel sticker on the windshield.
The condition is very good. There is very little rust and could find only around the stainless trim at rear window and around the trim on the trunk lid wheel. Even in the engine what looks in the photos like discoloration is dirt and oil. The car when found was covered by reddish sawdust (which until we cleaned it look a little like rust as well). But we think it is this covering and the climate controlled home woodworking workshop the sawdust covering (it was everywhere in an out of the car) and cool dry area protected the car from deteriorating. The Brown and Tan Leather is still supple and playable. Only one piece, the center brown section on the front seat at the arm rest is hard and we believe it is the foam under the leather which has hardened (note photos where I am pressing the leather with my finger) The only documents obtained with the car were the original CA Pink Slip and black plates. The gentleman who found the car in the estate also gave me a bill of sale.
While we are talking about photos I have nearly 100 and can only put 10 in this ad so send me an email with your request for photos at: firstname.lastname@example.org
The car speaks for itself and the photos look worse than the car for a change. I was planing on a body on restoration and bought a 1958 Imperial southampton from which I wanted to salvage the front and rear air conditioning for the 57 car. This 58 is mostly identical but not as nice a body and interior came from 30 years in Ft Worth, TX carport It is also being sold in a separate e-bay listing. Could make a deal for both cars.
I decided not to go forward with the renovation at the urging of my family as I am near completion of a body off restoration on another car. Space is becoming a problem and a little rest is desired.
