 Vehicle Description
In the automotive world, some lines are rarely crossed. Certain pre-war cars like 32 Fords and 35 Chevrolets have long been hot rod fodder but the higher-end cars of the day, the CCCA Approved Classics, rarely find themselves equipped with anything but factory hardware. This 1938 Packard rumble seat coupe is one of the exceptions. The car presents much like factory work with a restored original body finished in deep burgundy paint. Upates like the mesh hood inserts, painted sport mirrors, bumperettes, and Billet Specialties wheels hint this car is something special but the biggest change is under the hood. Lift either side to find a 514ci Ford engine turning out an estimated 600hp. Its based on a Ford Motorsport 460 block with a nodular iron stroker crank, H-beam connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons, and a mechanical roller lifter cam. Topped with a Ford Motorsport intake and a pair of SVO Cobra-Jet heads this is a serious mill for a serious car. Behind that big Ford, a C6 automatic transmission spins power back to a Ford 9-inch rear end. The stock frame has been outfitted with a Mustang II-style front suspension while the rear remains largely stock. Coilovers can be found at all corners. Power rack-and-pinion steering teams up with four-wheel disc brakes to modernize the driving experience while Uniroyal radials offer a great ride. Inside the car, the stock space is updated with Vintage Air climate control, a 10-disc CD changer, and new leather all around.
