89 North Plains Rd.
Very rare 1983 Oldsmobile Toronado Convertible.
Factory conversion probably handled by American Sunroof Company, numbers produced seem to be around 50 units, although, I have found one source that said nearly 200 Toro Convertibles were produced from 79-85. From what I have been able to glean from the ACCA, Olds forums and other resources, it is very difficult to be certain how many were made and if they were factory sanctioned or dealer upgrade items. Considering 300K Toronados were produced between 79-85, 50 is a VERY small amount. Very rare, however, does not necessarily mean very valuable and these Toro''s have been about the same price over the last decade.
A little about this particular Toro:
She was born in Linden NJ, in January of 1983, where she was promptly shuttled off to the ASC conversion facility. She stayed in the northeast as the first owner purchased her in PA and kept her through until 2004. In that time she accumulated about 70K miles and was well cared for. The second and current owner bought her and moved her to a new home in CT. In their 15 years of ownership, they''ve put just under 4000 miles on her.
Due to family issues, the car hadn''t been driven as much in the last couple of years and now needs to be sold.
The Toronado is a Braughm with PS, Power 4 disc brakes, Power Seats, Power Top, Power Windows, Front Wheel Drive (as all Toronados were), Leather seat surfaces, Auto dim lights, Tilt Wheel and A/C. Power comes from a 307/5.0 Liter 4 bbl GM V8 and Overdrive Trans. Body and frame are rust free/ no rot.
Total current mileage is 73,920.
Recent work (within a thousand miles and a few years) is a new top, Transmission pan gasket/filter, fluid change, New ignition and rebuilt carbs, new steering box and ball joints. This car has her original paint, as seen by the .1 mil paint thickness.
Overall the car is in great shape and runs and drives well, smoothly. With 74K miles, she does have some small nicks and chips in the original white paint and the paint on the trunk lid is very light crazed as seen in the photos. This is the only place where crazing is present. Although the tires have pretty good tread, they are over 8 years old and should probably be replaced. The AC blows cool.. not super cold so it could probably use a recharge.
There are receipts to show the work done by the current owner (all at a local GM/Oldsmobile dealer) and it is currently registered and insured and passed the most recent CT emissions.
With beautiful versions of the Toronado Braughms selling over $10K and this one being an ultra rare ASC conversion but with some minor cosmetic issues, asking price is $8200.
Please contact me with any questions, comments, to see MANY more photos, to make an offer or to arrange a time to see the car.
Thank you for the interest in this seldom seen convertible.
