2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
Dale Earnhardt first earned his nickname "The Intimidator" during the 1987 All-Star Race in Charlotte, North Carolina during this famous "Pass in the Grass" moment. This title was extremely fitting for Earnhardt who became well-known for his aggressive driving that none could match. Despite many tries, Earnhardt was able to secure victory at the Daytona 500 only once in his career.
For consignment a Dale Earnhardt signature edition Chevrolet Monte Carlo with a ground effects package, racing rear spoiler, stainless exhaust tips, custom interior features and door opening kick plates. All buttoned up and looking much like the Intimidator's race car. Do not be intimidated and walk in and have a look at this tribute car which is looking ..well...intimidating!
Black just like the race car of the legendary Intimidator, only this car is sans stickers. sponsors and numbers, and just clean deep black. Black integrated front and rear bumpers, a black belt line trimming, and a racing inspired rear black spoiler. The silver ground effects package is put on where a bit of lighter flare shows on the bottom of the car and races all around it. Some signature edition graphics are on the sides, including the smaller numeral 3 and Earnhardt signature. Way back are stainless steel exhaust tips. On top, an electric sunroof, and on all 4 corners 16-inch diamond cut aluminum wheels. Black window surrounds and the menacing begins!
Nicely sculpted molded two-tone door panels in light and dark gray greet us with a swing of the door. Power lock, power window and power side mirror switches are imbedded within. Slipping inside we see two tone leather accent seats with black leather bolsters, and lighter gray perforated and stitched vinyl inserts. Driver's side features 6-way power adjustments and are even heated. The leather bolsters have aged nicely, and the backs look nearly unused. In back is a larger 2 plus 2 bench setup very much like the front but with a single seat with no break in the middle, just a fold down armrest. The instrument panel with this car is the signature edition instrument cluster and is badged RCR and utilizes Dale's signature in the speedometer. On the floor are custom embroidered floor mats nearly showroom, and this embroidery also shows up on the headrests of the buckets. AM/FM/Cassette/CD digital readout radio is within the dash confines and the interior sports a 6-speaker sound system which has an automatic volume increaser as road noise increases. A tight black headliner is above.
A 3.8-liter 200hp rated V6 with SFI is sitting in the clean engine bay under the hood. On back is a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. The engine features a heater for the cold weather easy starts and has been well maintained. Only 12,417 miles have been clocked on this car since its birth.
Very clean underneath with absolutely no rust and barely any road dirt. Electronic traction control has been installed, and independent coil springs for the front, and independent coil springs for the back sport tuned suspension. Power disc brakes on all 4 corners are noted.
Low mileage cars are always a pleasure to slip into and this one was no exception. It fired right up, and the test track proved no match for it. All functions were working flawlessly, and it provided a smooth ride with nice smooth acceleration, good handling and straight braking. She was a little loose in turn 2, and we may want to take just a half a turn out of the rear suspension as its tight in the tri oval, but I digress as it was nice to fantasize!
A low mileage nice clean example, and neat tribute to the man himself. All good on all fronts, and it really is intimidating to look at and drive.
