presented by Covert Chevrolet of Hutto, and hosted by the Hutto Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the City of Hutto.

This year, we celebrate the

100th anniversary of the great hippo escape!

This year’s Hutto Olde Tyme Days celebration will be more fun than a barrel of monkeys! It’s been 100 years since Hal Farley, Jr. telegraphed the neighboring towns the famous message, “Stop trains. Hippo loose in Hutto,” in reference to a hippopotamus that had escaped a circus train during a routine stop at the train depot near Frame Switch, and made her way into nearby Cottonwood Creek. Lore has it that it took three days to get her out of the creek and back on the train, much to the consternation of the circus staff, and to the amusement of the locals.

This year’s celebration will feature:

· a car show, presented by Al Clawson Disposal, Inc

· two drive-in movies (Friday), presented by the YMCA

· food vendors

· arts and crafts vendors

· a pageant

· a parade

· Alan Franks’ The Hippo Collective movie

· a carnival

· the Stampede 5K Fun Run

· a pancake breakfast

· a pie eating contest

· bubble soccer

· performances by several local groups

· a street dance, presented by Brown Distributing Company, featuring Charlie Robison with Southern Sky.

We’ll even have a visit from members of Hippolotofus (a fun-loving group of hippo lovers and collectors from around the world) and not one, but TWO hippo cars! You can also have your photo taken on a longhorn steer. The Chamber will be hosting a Founders’ Party, for those of you who have been a part of planning or running any of the Hutto Olde Tyme Days festivals, on Friday, October 16, from 5pm to 7pm. The car show runs from 10am-2pm, and is an open “Top 20” show. Registration is $20 and the car show includes registration into the parade at 10am.

Mark your calendar for October 10th (for the pageant) and October 16th-17th, 2015 (for the festival), and make plans to spend the weekend celebrating with us! Tickets are available for the pageant, the car show, the drive-in movies, and the Saturday night street dance and carnival at http://hutto.org/tickets.
