25th Annual Anti-Football Drive Selected as

One of Top Ten January 1 Historical Events







The August Automotive Advisory Committee* has selected the Bay Area’s



semi-celebrated Anti-Football drive as one of the Top Ten January 1



Historical Events of All Time, David Swig co-director announced today. The



drive, now possibly in its 25th year will bring more than 150 “interesting”



older cars to Marin County to re-discover the lore of the open road while



simultaneously decrying the New Year’s Day tradition of “watching dumb



college football games on TV”, said Swig.





What is interesting? “It’s easier define what isn’t,” said Swig. “







David Swig plans to drive a La Carrera Panamericana 1951 Chrysler



Saratoga, a car his father Martin loved dearly. "Interesting," he says,



"because Martin only drove it while wearing his sombrero." Co-director



Howard Swig will be driving the even more outrageous El Caballo de Hierro



or "Iron Horse", another Mexican road race warrior that might have



influenced the Johnny Cash classic "One Piece at a Time".







Owners of 1989 vintage or older cars will be advised to meet at a secret



departure point in Marin County on Thursday, January 1, at 8 AM for coffee



and rolls before departing at 9 AM for a half-day tour of Highway 1 coastal



towns and a camaraderie and cheese stop at the Petaluma Creamery. A



no-host lunch at Poggio Restaurant in Sausalito 3will follow the tour.







“We have nothing against the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, the Cotton Bowl,



or the Rose Bowl,” revealed Swig. “But I must point out that not one

was listed among the Top Ten January 1 Events of All Time as was



our Anti-Football Drive.” The Top Ten January1 list follows:
