DESCRIPTION
1963 Chevrolet Impala Anniversary Edition Hardtop
For consignment, one of the Golden Anniversary Edition Impala\'s right out of 1963. Owned by our consignor for the last 26 years and believed to be a 3 owner car, this older frame off restored car sports a rebuilt during the restoration engine and transmission, some new parts put on, and is now a driver which can go virtually anywhere reliably. A correct engine, Powerglide transmission, a good paint job, and you will be turning heads by leaps and bounds, now put a ring on it!
Exterior
The beneficiary of an older frame off restoration, things outside remain true to the trim tag with the body being draped in correct code 927 Anniversary Gold. A few areas of wear are showing where the bondo was put on, mainly the rear quarter and front fenders, but it\'s minor. Some inclusions are also noted within the paint, but again you have to look closely to really catch them. Straight steel panels, gaps well minded, and very nicely preserved chrome and brite work are some of the highlights to the body. A beautiful belt line trim spear runs the length, and with the chrome bumpers adds a nice and tasteful highlight to this gold classic. We note the correct crossed flags emblem on the front quarters, not to be outdone by the prancing circled Impala on each rear quarter. The iconic triple tail lights bring up the rear and are essential to every Impala. 14-inch Anniversary Gold steel wheels with SS hubcaps adorn each corner and are wrapped in new thin whitewall rubber. I do, I do, I do!!!
Interior
A swing of the door and we are brought back in time to 1963 with stitched vinyl and metal buttons on the doors, and just a bit of textured vinyl on the lower thirds all in black. Feasting our eyes on the split front bench we are greeted with triangulated cloth patterned inserts with smooth black vinyl bolsters. The rear seat takes its cues from this front bench and has the rear speaker inserted in the middle. These benches float in a sea of black carpet in good condition, and carpeted floor mats protect the floors. The dash is pure early 60\'s Chevrolet, with a two-tiered setup speedo and gauges on top and a stainless strip with embedded knobs all within easy reach of the driver. An aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette radio has been installed below the dash and the original AM radio resides in dashcentral. The original column shift is present and accounted for and atop the column is the original black plastic wheel with its half round chrome horn ring. A shout out to the trunk which looks like the day it left the factory, all solid steel showing no rust. Let\'s cut the cake...
Drivetrain
Flipping the hood we are met with a rebuilt during the restoration 327ci V8 in correct orange block painted glory. A single 4-barrel carburetor sits under a factory looking air cleaner. Hoses and belts are like new, and we note power steering and power brakes as an option. As noted, the original and rebuilt Powerglide 2-speed automatic is bolted to the back and a 3.08 geared axle turns the rear tires. We note the addition of an aluminum radiator, and our consignor notes that the original radiator is included, but needs to be recored. Cue the dollar dance...
Undercarriage
The years spent since the frame off restoration were good to this old gal as there are areas of surface rust on the usual suspects, albeit it minimal. All is structurally sound on the floorboard, toe kicks, inner fenders and frame. A newer dual exhaust system with glasspack mufflers is on to create the glorious burble at idle. Independent coil spring front suspension, and 4-link and coil spring rear suspension is seen, and power drum brakes are all around. Photo time!
Drive-Ability
A pleasure to get in and turn the key and now hear some quiet but throaty exhaust. This is a classy classic, that drives like a dream, with no observed faults or non-working functions. Acceleration was good, handling was on par for a car of its size and the braking was apt and bias free.
Many marriages don\'t last the test of time as well as this car has....60 years, that\'s a mighty long time of \"yes dears\". A true driver, with all the right anniversary codes, a snazzy engine compartment, and wonderful retro interior all in very nicely presenting condition, is here for the taking at Classic Auto Mall. Come on in and take a look at this Classic, but you probably won\'t see me....It\'s time to take my bride to the honeymoon suite.
