Made during the second week of February 1975 in GM's Detroit, Michigan factory on Clark Street (VIN code Q), this example was sold at The Major Cadillac in Kansas City, Missouri. It is dressed in Gossamer Blue Firemist (code 92) with a silver-blue, cross-grain padded roof (code D). The car's bodywork is straight and solid while the engine bay is very tidy. The car's chrome bumpers are in very good order. This big rig rolls on Nexen white stripe radials, size 235/75R15 at all four corners. Each one is mounted to a steel wheel topped with a factory wheel cover. The covers are all in good, original order while the tires are in very good condition. This car has a 133-inch wheelbase, three inches longer than a De Ville with a body that is three inches longer than that of a De Ville. One of the most obvious changes to GM's full-size cars in 1975 was the switch from round to rectangular headlights. Cadillac made significant advancements in engineering for 1975, that resulted in an increase in gasoline mileage. Among them was the new catalytic converter. This was an important advancement, as it scrubbed engine emissions outside of the engine--allowing the engine itself to be recalibrated for improved efficiency under varied conditions. The High Energy Ignition (HEI) System introduced last year as an option was made standard for 1975, an important advancement in engine performance, reliability and length between scheduled services. Under that huge, counterbalanced hood is GM's largest displacement gasoline engine up that time, the 500 CID (8.2L) V-8 with a Rochester Quadrajet carburetor. Backing this monster engine is a Turbo Hydramatic 400 three-speed automatic transmission and a 2.73 rear end. Cadillac introduced a new, wider radiator for 1975 for better cooling in heavy traffic conditions. New engine mounts also isolated the engine better, to reduce vibration and noise. New stainless steel sandwiched rear brake lines resisted corrosion longer. Other changes made to improve fuel economy included modifications to the transmission torque converter to make it "tighter" for more immediate, positive response. Lower axle ratios also helped increase mileage, as did steel-belted radial ply tires, which reduced drag up to 33 percent compared to bias-belted tires. This meant less rolling resistance and better fuel economy. Driver convenience features are abundant, as expected on a Cadillac - air-conditioning; power, recirculating-ball steering; power front disc and finned rear drum brakes that were self-adjusting; cruise control; tilt steering column; power windows; power locks; power sideview mirrors; Dual Comfort 60/40 split front seat with power adjuster; and power antenna. Inside, the car is finished in Antique Dark Blue Leather (code 262). The front and rear bench seats, complete with fold-down center armrests, are in overall very good order. The corresponding blue carpeting is in satisfactory condition while the blue headliner looks great. In the rear, which looks roomy enough to be a limousine, there are nods to Cadillac's past - footrest panels and straps attached to the front seatbacks to which one can fold over coats, suit jackets and the like. The inner door panels, dash and steering wheel are garnished with burled wood for added warmth. The inner door panels, dashboard and column-mounted shift lever are all in great shape and a factory AM-FM radio completes the interior. In 1965, the "Brougham" name was first affixed to "Fleetwood" on the Fleetwood Sixty Special as an upgraded option package, which included a vinyl roof and special "Brougham" script lettering on the sides, but it was not a separate model.
