DESCRIPTION

1968 Ford Torino GT Fastback

For consignment, a 1968 Ford Torino GT with a title verified 65,724 actual miles, a sportsroof, and a 390ci V8 under the hood. Here we have a restorable diamond in the rough with a non running engine, a missing driveshaft, a bit of rust underneath but also some redeemable qualities. Let\'s get into it!

Exterior
The flat nosed face, with half of the quad headlights in place, is winking at you, my friend, and saying, come take on this challenge! May we suggest you look at the rear quarter angle? Look how the rear window meets a sweeping decklid that rolls off to the sides to form broad shoulders over the stout tail light flanking a flat black latch panel with midline trim and a GT gas cap. Sure, there\'s some missing trim but remnants of the Gulfstream Aqua shine through making it easy to imagine with a two stage repaint. A C-stripe runs the shoulder line starting at the back of the car then runs the length, turns direction, then heads back beyond the door ending in a point. The C-pillar is adorned with five vertical trim pieces, canted back as if blown by the wind. 14-inch Styled Steel wheels look the part and carry the GT logo. Imperfections persist and include a hood and fender tops that have surface rust and rust through, chrome that will need replating, a crack in the windshield, misaligned door, surface rust spots throughout, dings and dents in the trim, a cracked headlight, rust on parts of the body and fenders and door bottoms.

Interior
Inside, you\'ll find things tired and worn but mostly intact! The black vinyl door panels are complete, but we\'re unable to open the passenger door for full review. Grand Touring badges still in place. The split bench is also grain vinyl and shows a tear in the corner but, along with the rear bench, present in good condition. Upfront, the black steering wheel looks original and is cracked, retaining a simulated burlwood center and GT crest. Simulated stitching surrounds the four gauge cylinders over an AM/FM radio. The shifter is a bit rough and so is the carpet while an oil pressure gauge hangs loose. Meanwhile, the headliner remains in good shape and retains the shoulder belts. We find a good amount of rust in the trunk.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a rough looking 390ci V8 originally rated at 325 horsepower and fueled by a 4-barrel carburetor. Behind the engine is a C6 3-speed automatic transmission which would send power to the Ford 9\" rear with 3.25 gears and TracLoc. Power brakes and power steering are on board along with headers.

Undercarriage
There\'s a good amount of rust and corrosion underneath and a bit of oil and grime as well. The headers are rusted and there is no exhaust system in place.. The car is equipped with power disc brakes in front and power drums in back and suspension consists of coil springs and leaf springs, front and rear respectively.

Drive-Ability
The car does not run as the engine is locked up.

If the demand for Mustang fastbacks is a gauge, we can say that the Torino fastback appeals to classic car fans for the same reason. It\'s unique, and uniquely muscular, transforming the pedestrian notchback into something so much more streamline and race centric. This one is going to take a few gallons of elbow grease, but there\'s enough here to visualize a stunning muscle car in the end.
