DESCRIPTION

1984 Chevrolet Camaro ZF Sport Coupe

For consignment, a 1984 Chevrolet Camaro ZF sport coupe showing 77,898 actual miles. This is a one owner car that perfectly illustrates some of the add ons that were trending at the time.

Exterior
From a distance, you\'ll see a base model Camaro with Cream Beige paint, nothing flashy or even vibrant. But as you get closer, the ZF gold decal package becomes clear, a series of expanding bands of color travel across the center of the hood and above the rocker panels. It skips the roof and decklid to keep things moderate, but the roof does have a ZF feature; a sunroof! Up front, three slots appear in the nose and this feature is shared with the Berlinetta and sport coupes, and so is the absence of a spoiler. Color matched Chevrolet Sport wheels complete the look, capped off by some ZF emblems on the fenders, door handles and rear bumper. Imperfections include chips throughout including a peppering on the sport mirrors, scratches, scuffs, a door ding with scratch, rock spray, blistering and surface rust especially along the rockers, flex cracks, and a missing insert on the front bumper.

Interior
You can\'t deny the sportiness of the F-body exterior, but open the door and you\'re greeted with a more luxury minded palette, beginning with brown vinyl and black hardware on the handsome door panels, both presenting very nicely. Inside, brown vinyl frames tweed inserts on the bucket seats and rear 2+2\'s and all are in remarkably good condition. A padded steering wheel fronts a prominent wood applique that frames the instrument cluster and also the right side of the dash, immediately warming up the interior even more than the brown vinyl and tweed already has. The center console and shifter remains backed by black plastic and the stack above contains the A/C panel and stock AM/FM radio. Thick brown carpet covers the floor with even thicker carpet mats to protect while a lighter carpet material covers the clean cargo area. We note the hatch struts will need to be replaced. The brown headliner is loose and sagging.

Drivetrain
When we open the hood to see the bay, we do note rust on the inside edge of the hood itself. Driver quality conditions prevail below where we find a 2.8 liter V6, rated at 107 horsepower and fueled by a 2-barrel carburetor. It\'s backed by a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the 10 bolt rear axle with 3.23 gears. The fan shroud and shock towers take up a good bit of the bay where we find a power booster, power steering, and air conditioning.

Undercarriage
Plenty of patina here with deep surface rust and typical oxidation but conditions are dry in terms of oil. A single exhaust utilizes a stock style muffler and exits without fanfare out back. The car has power disc brakes up front and power drum in back while suspension includes coil springs at both ends with a torque armin back.

Drive-Ability
The warm interior turns a bit cold as we note a strong rodent smell inside, but that doesn\'t deter us from hitting the test loop. Now, the 35 year old tires do prevent us from going very far, but we are able to make a run and the engine runs well and other than the A/C, all functions operate as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

It might not be the fastest or flashiest of the Camaros, but it still holds a place in Camaro lore; a rare, dealer optioned ZF car in decent condition. The body is mostly straight, the interior has held up well, and the engine will get you from point A to point B, and we hope point B someday includes Camaro Nationals here in Morgantown!
