DESCRIPTION

1941 Plymouth Special Deluxe P12 4 Door Sedan

For consignment, a 1941 Plymouth Special Deluxe P12 4 door sedan showing 97,603 miles, but the true miles are unknown. A 1941 print ad proclaimed, \"glamorous new fashion tone interior, a miracle of color, fabric, appointments.\". Our multi award winning example maintains the two tone interior, but in a more modern iteration, just like the rest of this street rod build.

Exterior
A pointed front V splits the grilles which are large, rounded openings with horizontal slats creating a dramatic and distinctive face drenched in Ruby Red Metallic paint and plenty of polished trim including a band that rises from the front and heads straight to the back. The articulated fenders are subtly stamped with three accent lines and a modest running board connects the fenders. There is a forward leaning attitude to the profile of the car, as if in motion, attributed to the C-pillars and the front\'s forward cant. American Racing wheels are here as 14-inch fronts and 15-inch rears with staggered size tires for a more muscular profile. The front and rear bumpers take on the body color and in back, this allows the tail light nacelles, center light trim, and decklid badge to really shine. Oh, and you can\'t miss the chrome exhaust tips extending past the bumper. The paint is excellent but not without flaws. Spider cracks, chips, inclusions, glass deglazing, scratches, windshield scratches, bubbling, touched up areas, rust where the decklid meets the body, and paint/clear runs all can be found throughout the exterior.

Interior
Two tone gray cloth dresses the door panels and all four, including the rear coach doors, show nicely. The same material is used on the seats, with the lighter gray covering the stitched inserts first on the 70/30 split bench up front, then the full bench in back. The sidewalls and package shelf are also nicely finished and Betty Boop mats occupy the floors. A Grant GT steering wheel fronts the original configured dash, backed in black paint looking clean and classic. There is low pile gray carpet on the floor and a gray headliner above, both in nice shape. Not to be dismissed, the big trunk is also finished in gray carpet and holds the battery box.

Drivetrain
Under the hood we find a 318ci V8 from the \'67-\'75 period, topped with an Edelbrock 4-barrel carb over a Weiand intake manifold. It\'s backed by an A727 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the 8 inch rear axle. Power brakes and power steering are on board.

Undercarriage
An X-frame takes center on this clean underside that has some light, typical patina, dry conditions and no structural rust. The dual exhaust runs through Turbo style mufflers on its way to the chrome tipped exit and suspension consists of coil springs in front and leaf springs in back. Front wheels carry power disc brakes and the rear carry power drums.

Drive-Ability
We get in to this pretty red ride and find a comfortable and simple cabin with plenty of room. The trusty 318 leads the charge as we circle around the test loop where the car tracks straight on tires which have a mid 2019 date code, handling well in turn ins, and despite the smaller rear window, provides good visibility with the help of dual side mirrors. We note the driver\'s door window is out of track, the turn signals and horn are not working, but all other functions operate as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

This is a great cruiser with everything you\'ll need for a day at the car show or a night on the town. A dependable V8, room for the family and their belongings, and a Plymouth model that saw over 190,000 produced in \'41, because they were that good!
