The 1978 Chevrolet Corvette Indianapolis 500 Pace Car was considered by many a collector car from day one. So that's why it's so fantastic to find one that truly has been treated that way. After all, the 6,027 miles on the odometer is believed to represent the full actual mileage! And this was optioned with everything you want, including the loaded A/C interior and numbers-matching L82 motor.
This was the silver anniversary of the Corvette, and a big reason the Pace Car factory replica was an instant classic was that it showed off the new updated style the best. Chevy made a very special two-tone that had such a well-coordinated style that this looks like a custom car. There's a red pinstripe that highlights all the coupe's best features, like the sharply pointed nose and tall fender line. Even the alloy wheels have a redline in them. It was an expensive paint practice to do at the factory, and it's quite time-consuming to get a respray like this looking so correct. But the results are worth it because the well-respected body has extra clean lines, and the high-gloss shine shows them off properly. And it's not just the believed low odometer that made it worthwhile to invest in this coupe, but also it has a low production number being #222 of the 6502 pace editions ever made. It really keeps its authentic style everywhere from the correct and clean decals to the proper Goodyear raised white letter tires.
The silver leather interior is perfect for the special edition car, and it's one of the truly unique elements of a late C3s. Plus, the low mileage means light usage and a well-preserved appearance. The leather seats are complete, the door panels look great, and the dash feels quite nice. Pace cars were quite expensive over the base Corvette, and so they came loaded with the best features, including tinted glass T-tops, full gauge package, power windows, electric rear defogger, sport mirrors, power door locks, cold-blowing air conditioning, and a special silver leather-wrapped tilt/telescope steering wheel. This one is so '70s-style authentic, you even get a CB radio integrated into the AM/FM stereo! And Corvette people know this was a rare and expensive option.
The engine is the optional and numbers-matching L82 350 cubic-inch V8. This higher compression motor was a must-have for the performance fans in 1978 because it offered 18% more horsepower than the standard Corvette V8. It starts quickly and idles easily with a nice V8 burble out of the dual exhaust that never gets old. It will be a hit at the car shows simply because Corvette people love seeing an original-looking engine bay that's so clean you could serve lunch on the factory air cleaner. You'll likely add to the low odometer by taking this to events near and far. After all, Corvettes are good for speed, but this one is a nice car for long trips, too. That's thanks to features like the three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, cruise control, and four-wheel power disc brakes.
The sale comes complete with the owner's manual, reproduction window sticker, T-top storage bags, and a car cover. The '78 Indy 500 Pace Car Corvettes are exceptional collectibles, and so you want one that is fully presented that way. Call today!!!
