DESCRIPTION

1991 Cadillac Coupe DeVille

For consignment, a 1991 Cadillac Coupe DeVille with a title verified 43,697 actual miles. In the early 90\'s, the buzz at Cadillac was still centered around the Pininfarina designed Allante\', a two seat luxury roadster that had taken the world, or at least the U.S., by storm in the late 80\'s and saw minor improvements into the 90\'s. But Cadillac retained their fleet of full sized luxury cars that appealed to a brand loyal customer base, even as cars continued to shrink in overall size.

Exterior
This car is like a layer cake with a gray lower with silver body molding, a wider layer of Carmine Red two stage paint, and a frosting of dark red vinyl, all in the shape that was baked in a rectangle cake pan. From any angle, it\'s stately and elegant and in 1991, retaining an enormous rear deck which drops squarely to the latch panel and is flanked by pure Cadillac vertical slit tail lights. In front, composite headlights smooth the edges around a wide chrome grille over the chrome bumper that carries the front marker lights. Gold trim bumps up the class factor and includes the hood ornament, nameplates, and Cadillac crest on the back. It also appears on the center cap of the 15-inch wheels and as a pinstripe that runs the shoulder line. The vinyl roof has an undulating surface like a convertible would, as if braces are underneath and ready to fold back, and it\'s convincing! Meanwhile, minor imperfections on the exterior include a scratch, some scuffs on a corner, and tarnish on the gold emblems.

Interior
A bit of GM opulence is first found in the door panels which are thickly padded, adorned with lots of faux wood accents, and carrying a plush strip of burgundy carpet on the kick panel. DeVille is embroidered on the header of each door for some scripted elegance. Robust leather bucket seats are provided for front occupants, and comfort is the name of the game and the monochromatic burgundy palette continues to the luxurious rear bench where ashtrays and an armrest is provided to guests, and it\'s all in great shape. A handsome steering wheel is also wrapped in leather and leads to the dash with a modern take for \'91, a series of digital screens, flat black squares when off, in place of analog dials of Caddys past. A fuel data center is on the mid panel, right before it cants towards the driver with more controls. The climate panel is a push button and the radio in the center stack shares the same green, digital readouts. Burgundy carpet is toes deep thick and protected by carpeted mats in, yes, burgundy. A big, flat trunk is lined and finished in gray cloth panels and is spotless.

Drivetrain
Just as the gold label on the trunk lid says, the engine is a 4.9 liter V8 with tuned port injection putting out 200 horsepower and mated to a 4T60E 4-speed automatic transmission for feathery shifts that keep power to the front wheels with 2.73 gears. Power brakes are onboard as front discs and rear drums. The engine bay presents cleanly.

Undercarriage
Clean, driver quality with some surface rust and some road dirt, but not much. There\'s a coating of residual oil on the pans but that\'s the only dampness underneath. With all functions up front, the underside is mostly flat with a single exhaust moving through a central tunnel, encountering an original equipment muffler, then exiting on the right rear. Suspension consists of Macpherson struts in front with coil springs on the independent rear.

Drive-Ability
It\'s like wrapping yourself in a burgundy burrito as the interior envelops you in soft, supple surfaces and calming woodgrain accenting. The 4.9 comes to life and soundproofing keeps things quiet in the cabin as we hit the test loop. The car delivers the expected smooth ride and everything functions as it should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

This example of the height of American luxury in 1991 has been well maintained and barely driven, and can now not only be driven, but shown as well! Ever hear of Radwood? This car would fit right in. But any car show will do and this will stand out in a sea of muscle cars normally populating local shows and cruise nights. If you were a kid of the 80\'s and 90\'s, this one will surely bring back some memories, so why not live them! As Ron Burgundy once said, \"Don\'t act like you\'re not impressed.\".
