The 1972 Indianapolis 500 marked a historic chapter in American motorsports. Held on May 27, 1972, at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the 56th running of the Indy 500 featured record-breaking qualifying speeds and saw Mark Donohue claim his first Indianapolis 500 victory, delivering Team Penske its first triumph at the Brickyard. Leading the field that year was the iconic 1972 Oldsmobile Hurst/Olds Indianapolis 500 Pace Car, driven by former Indy 500 champion Jim Rathmann. With its powerful 455 cubic-inch V8, distinctive white-and-gold color scheme, and unmistakable Hurst styling, the Hurst/Olds earned its place in Indianapolis 500 history.
Celebrating that legendary combination of motorsports heritage and American muscle, this 1972 Oldsmobile Hurst/Olds Indianapolis 500 Pace Car Edition delivers classic styling, impressive big block performance, and exceptional collector appeal. Under the hood sits a powerful Oldsmobile 455 V8 paired with a GM TH400 automatic transmission, sending power to a GM 10-bolt rear end with 3.42 gears. Finished in striking white exterior paint with gold stripes, a white vinyl top, and a black leather interior, this Hurst/Olds captures the unmistakable appearance of the original Indianapolis 500 Pace Car. Additional features include air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, front disc brakes, rear drum brakes, 15-inch Oldsmobile Super Stock gold wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires, a Rochester Quadrajet four-barrel carburetor, and factory-style cooling components.
